ARRIVING BY AIR

The best 'local' airports are Ljubljana (inbound), and Trieste (return). Intercontinental flights may use Venice - also Frankfurt, Vienna and Paris - then change onto another flight to Ljubljana. Flight information can change rapidly and direct flights are not available every day. Please do check directly with the airlines' websites before finalising any booking with us and do not book your flights until we have confirmed that we have provisionally reserved accommodation for you.

Land by (Ljubljana): any time (as your first night is in Ljubljana);

Land by (Trieste): 16:00 for bus transfer to Ljubljana; or pre-bookable taxi to Sezana station for train on to Ljubljana OR pre-bookable taxi all the way.

Return flight earliest (Trieste): No time limit.

Return flight earliest (Ljubljana): if returning from Ljubljana airport, a final night there will be necessary, so no time limit.

Land by and return flight earliest times not applicable if using pre-booked taxi

Flights from UK and Eire airports (Trieste = T; Ljubljana = L)

Birmingham Ryanair (T); Gatwick Adria Airways (L); Luton Adria Airways (L), Wizzair (L); Stansted Easyjet (L, not daily all year round), Ryanair (T, daily).

ARRIVING BY TRAIN

Nearest railway station:

Start: Ljubljana.  If coming from Italy, get as far asTrieste, then either express bus to Ljubljana or pre-bookable  taxi over the border to Sezana (Slovenia) followed by train to Ljubljana.

Finish: Trieste (5 mins walk) or Ljubljana (short taxi ride if staying final night in Ljubljana)

Typical rail journey from UK via Paris, Munich and Ljubljana:

London: Eurostar to Paris. From here a night train to Munich.  Change on to the train for Ljubljana. ~21 hrs. For the stretch between London/Paris and Ljubljana, see www.seat61.com/Slovenia.htm

Trieste: Train to Venice for night train "Artesia" to Paris Bercy.  Transfer to Paris Nord for the Eurostar, arrive London St Pancras International. ~18.5 hrs.  For full timetables, and for local train (no need to book) from Trieste to Venice see www.bahn.de.  For Venice-Paris-London see www.seat61.com/Italy.htm

Getting to the start of the walk:

The first hotel is in Ljubljana and the last in Trieste. Transfer times and methods are suggested for the outward journey from Ljubljana airport and the return journey to Trieste airport, the best combination. If flying into Trieste or out from Ljubljana, you will need to transfer between the two by bus (daily from Trieste at 18:20 only) or pre-booked taxi.  Railway station transfers are also given below.

LJUBLJANA AIRPORT:

Shuttle bus or pre-booked taxi, both direct to your Ljubljana hotel (or bus/train station)

TRIESTE AIRPORT:

Airport bus or local taxi between airport and bus/train station

For pre-bookable taxi prices, see "Prices" or contact us

VENICE:  This route can be efficiently combined with a trip to Venice at the start.  From Venice, train to Trieste, then (daily at 18:20) bus to Ljubljana.  Returning, train from Trieste to Venice Mestre then shuttle to airport.

Railway/bus station transfers:

Ljubljana station is a 20-minute walk from your first hotel, or 5 minute taxi ride.

Trieste train and bus stations are a short walk from your final hotel,

Full transfer advice, including timetables, is provided in your Walkers' Pack.  Contact us if you would like additional pre-booking information.
