| Day 1 |
Arrive at Malá Skála. Settle in, have a stroll up to Vranov Ridge and back to a good supper in the village. |
| Day 2 |
Malá Skála circuit. A gentle warm-up along the Jizera River, then a short ascent before some open walking to the pub at Besedice for lunch. Then your first rock labyrinth, before a lovely walk to a ruined Gothic castle and back to Malá Skála. (19 km, 6 hrs, CUSs 450m) Shorter alternative - 13 km, 4½ hrs. |
| Day 3 |
Malá Skála to Hrubá Skála. A longer morning’s walk, taking in Frydstejn ruin, a woodland walk and an old farmhouse before arriving in Turnov for lunch. A short afternoon, with a leisurely visit to a castle and/or Kopic’s farmhouse and gallery of rock-carvings before arriving at your next night’s stay. (20 km, 6½ hrs, CUSs 400m) Shorter alternative - 16 km, 5 hrs or take train (and shorten further). |
| Day 4 |
Hrubá Skála to Neprivec. The day of two castles, so we recommend an early start. First to the double castle of Trosky, and then across the fields and through the woods to Kost, the country’s best-preserved Gothic castle. (23 km, 7½ hrs, CUSs 350m) Alternative - train then 6 kms (2 hrs) circuit near hotel. |
| Day 5 |
Neprivec to Prachov. A lovely path straight from your hotel to the circular Baroque lodge of Humprecht. Lunch in village café and into the woods again around Prachov, and your hotel in the pines. (16 km, 4½ hrs, CUSs 250m) Shorter alternative - train then walk (5 km, 1½ hrs plus train) |
| Day 6 |
Prachov to Jicín. Your final walk through the forest out into the open around Brada and perhaps a climb of Zebin; wander through the old town of Jicín before supper in one of its restaurants. (15 km, 5 hrs, CUSs 100m) Shorter alternative 11 km, 3½ hrs. |
| Day 7 |
Prague. By bus or train (or taxi) to one of our hotels in the city centre. Spend the afternoon getting to know this wonderful city. |
| Day 8 |
Depart Prague hotel (or choose to stay further nights). | |
