Walking holidays, tours and vacations on the Lycian Way, Turkey
Ancient Olympus, pomegranate juice and the sea
The Turquoise Coast is one of the last unspoilt parts of Turkey's southern littoral. Our route starts at a mountain hotel overlooking the Lycian Way, a long distance footpath along the bulge on the coast west of Antalya. It takes you down to the coast itself at Phaselis, a wonderfully preserved and little-visited Graeco-Roman site on a promontory, and then winds south past secluded beaches to the Chimaera, the eternal flame of legend. Explore this and the nearby site of Olympus (the Turkish one, that is), and then those last two days! Lonely and thrilling, the last day along the wild and beautiful coast of the empty peninsula of Kilidonya to the lighthouse.

| Day 1 |
Arrive in Antalya and transfer to your first hotel perched on top of a ridge. Admire the views and have supper. Late arrivals will sleep in until lunch! |
| Day 2 |
Ovacik to Berke. A gentle walk for your first day's outing, down the valley and over a low ridge to the village of Gedelme. (13 km, 4½ hrs, CUSs 150m) Taxi pick up from restaurant. |
| Day 3 |
Berke to Phaselis. Walk up through the pine woods and then drop down to explore the major Graeco-Roman site. A paddle in the sea ends your walk (10 km, 5 hrs, CUSs 150m) |
| Day 4 |
Phaselis to Cirali. After a short ride to the start of the walk, continue your journey enjoying spectacular views between secluded beaches, and along an old cliff path to the beach at Cirali (19 km, 6½ hrs, CUSs 250m) Alternative: Take a ride along the coast in a wooden motorboat to a beach, then walk for 2½ hrs. |
| Day 5 |
Free day to visit the ruins at Olympus and/or lunch at a famous restaurant and a walk to the eternal flames of the Chimaera. Or you may prefer to put your feet up on the beach and get ready for the last two days walking. |
| Day 6 |
Cirali to Adrasan. A beautiful walk. Starting with a morning’s beach walk past Olympus and a stiff climb through strawberry (arbutus) tree woods, the afternoon will take you from high pastures down through pine and deciduous woods on a pretty and winding path. The walk ends with a stroll along the river bank to your hotel for the night. (16 km, 6½ hrs, CUSs 600m) |
| Day 7 |
From Adrasan to the Lighthouse, and Antalya. Enjoy the wildest part of your journey, which has been saved for your last walking day. From the beach at Adrasan, the route climbs up through a camel farm then up a pretty path to a pass. From there it tracks the sea, along a dramatic coastline, eventually arriving at the lighthouse of Kilidonya. Your taxi will collect you at your chosen time and take you to our favourite Antalya hotel. (22 km, 7½ hrs, CUSs 770m) |

"Maps were much envied by other walkers."
"Interesting and varied hotels/pensions made arriving at each destination surprising and pleasing."
"One of the most challenging and exhilarating holidays we have been on; walking in the UK just isn't the same since Turkey! It would be wonderful if you could open up a further section of the Lycian Way for us all!"
"The walk from Ulupinar to the flames at Chimaera, after a superb meal at the Havubazi restaurant, is very strongly recommended. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring old and new Antalya at the end of our stay and the Turk Evi hotel was a delight. All in all a very good experience."
"We saw our first wild tortoise! We saw the amazing Chimaera - continuous flames fuelled by unknown gases emitting directly from the bare rock. The open pasture just past the pass was beautiful, with great views from a threshing floor behind the shepherd's hut down to Adrasan and more greenhouses. The walk down to Adrasan was delightful - just stunning scenery. A great wild walk with no one else to be seen or heard - except a huge tortoise 100m above the lighthouse. Great scenery, flowers, people and food. We had a fantastic holiday."
"Excellent and impressive organization throughout. No hitches or problems with On Foot planning. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!"
"A truly amazing trip. Everywhere we stayed was different but always very welcoming. Only saw 4 other walkers in 7 days!"
"One of the best walking holidays we have ever had."
