Giving back to our communities
On Foot Holidays is pleased to support a variety of charities and sustainability projects. Some of these are here in our home town, and some are further afield in our holiday destinations.
Projects we are pleased to support
Broken Bridges Nature Reserve, Salisbury
On Foot Holidays has made a substantial donation to a project local to us, here in Salisbury, in a place close to our hearts.
An area of water meadows along the River Nadder, on the western edge of the city but seemingly a world away, was becoming derelict. When the land became available to purchase, a charity was formed to raise the purchase price, with the aim of restoring bio-diversity, improving public access and enhancing wildlife.
Work has now begun, with the meadows being cut in summer 2025 to encourage the growth of rare wild plants, and trees have been made safe. The work will safeguard the area as a community asset, and we’re looking forward to seeing the progress, and helping out when we can.
You can find out more on their webpage, and donate to the project here.
Salisbury Musick – a new festival of early music
On Foot Holidays is delighted to support Salisbury Musick, a new festival of early music in our lovely home city. Concerts and events include music mostly from the 17th and 18th centuries, and in the inaugural 2025 festival they included a wide range, from ‘ayres and dances’ to the grandeur of JS Bach’s Mass in B minor. Three days of merry music-making involved local musicians and guest artists, with some free events, talks and opportunities for young people to take part, as well as concerts.
The first festival took place on 3rd to 5th October 2025, falling on the 250th anniversary of the first 3-day music festival known to have been held in Salisbury in 1775, so it has a fine precedent! We look forward to seeing what 2026 will have to offer.
Do take a look at the Salisbury Musick website for more details.
Salisbury Foodbank
Staff at the On Foot office donate regularly to a food collection for the Salisbury Foodbank, encouraged by our wonderful Bea who delivers the donations to the foodbank warehouse. The project supplies emergency food and support to those in crisis, and is part of the Trussell Trust network, a charity originally formed in Salisbury that now operates nationwide.
Pommie Pilgrimage
Our man in the Peak District, Richard Tucker, took part in a fundraising project for his local church in Youlgreave in 2024. A merry band of walkers have walked to every Anglican cathedral in England during the year, and we were pleased to support them and say hello to walkers passing through Salisbury.
Other community events we have supported in Salisbury
- Concerts by Salisbury Area Young Musicians, Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, and National Orchestra for All
- St Thomas’s Church Christmas Tree Festival
- South Wilts Grammar School Enterprise Days

Tree planting on La Gomera
We were happy to contribute in 2024 to a project by Herman and Amala at Hotel Anaterve in Vallehermoso, La Gomera. They are planting hundreds of specimens to restore the tree canopy on the slopes around their property. A young ficus Amstel and a cupressus are now growing in our name!
