Early May was the perfect time to visit Devon! We had perfect weather and the bluebells were fantastic! All arrangements - Rail Bus and train to Exeter, an extra day to get over jet lag there and see Exeter sights before starting the walk; an extra day in Haytor Vale to visit the tors in depth; lovely towns with old churches and graveyards and great pubs; the steam train 'shortcut'; the motte and Bailey castle in Totnes; Dartmouth Castle and Greenway; wonderful accommodations, some so old that the floors were a bit slanted or you had to duck under the beams. Good food and drink everywhere, although we never could quite manage the ubiquitous 'Full English Breakfast'! Bus, Train, Rail Bus back to Heathrow worked efficiently.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
The routes were well marked on the On Foot App, and if we got off track, it was usually just because of inattention. Accommodations were all excellently, with hospitable hosts. Some dinners were pre booked for us, particularly in more remote areas. Any questions were answered promptly,. This is our 3rd walk wit On Foot, and their attention to details has been constant. I am sure they deal with a great number of different clients, but their communication is always very personal and focussed on the individual.

This was a spectacular holiday. The trail was really well laid-out, the scenery was unbelievably beautiful, and the accommodations were unique, warm, and welcoming. On Foot Holidays and Aznar Fernandez de Pinedo, our host and local contact, were flawless. This was our fifth hike with On Foot, and we're planning on more hikes with them in the future. They've been so easy to work with, so accommodating and informative, that we'll continue to work with them for as long as we can still hike. We've never worked with a better company.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
Aznar was really the best host we've worked with. He was always available if we had a question, and he was proactive in calling our attention to things we needed to know or do for upcoming hikes. On top of that, he was personable, reliable, and had a great sense of humor. He made the experience all the more special and rewarding.

Our early May walk starting from St Ives passed through varied landscapes including farm fields, steep ascents and descents along coastal cliffs with gorgeous views, navigating across streams, over, between & around boulders, and past abandoned tin mines. The spring flowers along the way were an added bonus. The accommodations were great with generous and delicious breakfasts. As a pair of 70 year olds, we were pleased to find the walk completely doable. Good weather, walking sticks and training ahead at a gym made it all possible!!
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
The On Foot team, especially Mary, was terrific to deal with through phone calls and emails. When there was a problem with one hotel, Mary responded immediately and continued to keep in touch to ensure everything was resolved. We felt well cared for! On Foot provides all the info needed for a successful journey and their GPS works brilliantly. The whole trip was organized perfectly by On Foot.

Our second time with On Foot Holidays and still impressed with their level of professionalism. Great communication and meticulous planning down to the last detail. The inns and hotels we stayed in were without exception excellent and the proprietors friendly and extremely helpful. The walks each day were enough of a challenge to be interesting and fun but not so hard that you were left exhausted. Also, the On Foot app is so good at keeping you from straying off course. Thanks to all at On Foot Holidays for another wonderful adventure.

My two teenage sons and I walked & hiked the Cilento route, and it was the most marvellous experience. The hikes were challenging, but oh so beautiful. And the reward of putting your feet up at the end of a day was well earned. Each village was more charming and special than the last. The accommodations ranged from small boutique hotel to working olive farm with cabins/rooms. What a glorious way to experience Italy. My kids had an experience they’ll never forget, and I was elated to experience it with them. Can’t wait for my next OnFootHoliday!

A fabulous week's walking, in a beautiful unspoilt region of France that felt like stepping back in time and slowing down to the pace of the mighty river. The walk took us through wooded hillsides and limestone scenery (the detour to the caves at Padirac is an absolute must), and each of our hosts served us the very best of French cuisine as well as a welcoming glass of local beer at the end of each day's walking. The region was rich in birdlife; Nightingales, Cuckoos, Hoopoes, Golden Orioles & Turtle Doves serenaded us along the way, and Black Kites were an almost constant companion overhead. One of the unexpected highlights was a visit to a 13th Century watermill on the last day. The owner, Hubert, showed us round and gave us a bag of his freshly-milled flour plus a glass of his (strong!) home-made Pruneaux liqueur. This was our third On Foot Holiday in three years and we'll be back for more. On Foot's local knowledge, their co-ordination with the hosts & taxi service for the luggage, and their game-changing navigation app all contribute to a seamless holiday experience. The only thing that is left to chance is the weather (but fortunately that was excellent too, with just a handful of spring showers to interrupt the glorious sunshine).

We walked for 6 days, between 14 and 24 kms per day, in the Dordogne region. The path generally follows the river but veers off over hills and other valleys to wind around castles and other attractions generally following one or more of Frances Grand Route walking trails. We stayed in a number of charming bed and breakfasts in villages arranged by the tour operator, On Foot Holidays. Because of the remote nature of several locations, there were a number of picnic lunches and dinners included in the tour. With a couple of exceptions, there are limited options in some areas and this tour was in late April which is early in the walking season, the rooms and meals were very good. The scenery is varied from forests, to vineyards, cliff tops, cave sites, waterfalls, river valleys, historic castles and manors and the exquisite Rocamadour. Most of the towns are very small, many just a grouping of houses and a church, and amenities like stores, restaurants and washrooms are few and far between except for the final stay each night. We stayed an extra night in Carennac and enjoyed it as the town has some interesting historical sights. There is an option to catch a ride with the baggage carrier to shorten some days as walks over 20 km, especially if it is hot, can be gruelling. Note that there are no bus options through this area of France to shorten the walks.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We have used On Foot Holidays once before and were generally satisfied with the tour arrangements. Depending on the town and what's available at the time of year, there can be a variation in the quality of the accommodations, most were excellent but not all. The maps and the walking phone app provided this year were very good and improved over the 2024 option. The instructions and preparations for the start and finish are excellent and the baggage handling was seamless.

Unlike most British walkers, my husband and I had come over from abroad to explore the very first national park in the UK. And what can we say? Our six‑day ramble through the Peak District was nothing short of delightful. The superb organisation by On Foot Holidays team, the wonderfully varied scenery, the extraordinarily friendly locals, and the unexpectedly glorious weather all combined to make our journey absolutely perfect. Our ascent of Kinder Scout, right in the midst of that vast sweep of moorland, was without doubt the crowning moment of the entire walk.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We’re so deeply grateful that we chose On Foot Holidays as our operator. From our very first email enquiry right through to the final follow‑up after our holiday, everything was handled smoothly and with real care. And their navigation app — it’s truly brilliant. It gives you such a reassuring sense of confidence, as though someone’s quietly keeping an eye on you throughout the walk. Our warmest thanks to the whole team.

Sunny, 72 (22C), green, and full of visual delights, we were very happy with our April walk through the Dordogne of SW France with On Foot Holidays. We especially loved that we were able to dine each night in our hotel, maison, or B&B. Alexis & Raphael, hosts at Maison Embellie in Gagnac-sur-Cere, are so warm and welcoming—their food and hospitality will be long remembered.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
This was our 5th walk with On Foot Holidays. The new navigation app is wonderful! Their communication is practically instant, their materials carefully prepared, and their descriptions are accurate (exception: we are a bit older and slower than some, and take about 1/3 longer to walk the routes). We have met many others on these walks, and most have tried other companies—they find our written materials very impressive and have some complaints here and there. We are hard-pressed to think of one.

A.few years ago, we enjoyed an On Foot Holidays visit to Naxos and Amorgos. This year, we planned a trip to another of their Greek island walks, on Andros. Since Naxos was close by, we decided to return as this was one of our favorites of the 18 walks we have done with On Foot. The walks were even better the second time. Knowing the trails, we were able to relax a bit more and spent additional time just sightseeing along the way. We also returned to Hotel Grotta, the upgrade option in Chora, the capital.. It has an excellent location looking over the town, with a very professional and friendly staff. Mama’s breakfast is definitely the finest we have seen in any On Foot recommended hotels. It’s a long time family run hotel, and they also have a family olive press and museum a 15 minute drive away. Nikoletta, who previously managed the hotel, and now oversees the olive business, is the epitome of Greek hospitality - gregarious, funny, very personable, and your instant best friend. Perhaps we’ll return a third time?
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
Since we have completed 18 walks with On Foot Holidays, and have several more planned for this year alone, you know that we have the utmost respect for their business and entire staff. They are very thorough, with every detail, from current travel schedules to walk directions and an excellent gps, to great little inns (whose owners always say how much they like working with On Foot), to the local Contact who is more than happy to answer any question along the way, from current trail conditions to recommended restaurants.
