Taking a self guided walking tour with On Foot Holidays is often exhilarating for many reasons. For Umbria, we found the gems in the unique hilltop medieval villages we walked through, or stayed in. In Labro, where the restaurant had a table reserved for us, was by far the best meal we had this trip in Italy, with a lively and friendly waiter. The entire village has been restored over the past fifty years by the heirs of the once reigning family, whose castle, and the village, are impeccable. Each day’s walk was varied and beautiful, and the gps and app’s field notes were full of information.

My wife and I and our small (6kg) dog completely enjoyed our journey from Amalfi to Capri on foot. Each day brought unexpected views, interesting history, excellent and friendly service, all on a route clearly crafted by experienced guides. The experience exceed expectations on every level, from the customized approach to our trip, to the routes that we would have never have been able to find on our own, all woven together with a fantastic app that housed all the info. We will be back!

We chose Cilento in part because it’s in a lesser visited part of Italy, with small villages and great walking in between. Since it’s in southern Italy, we were able to start in late March, with cool, overcast skies, lonely walks and welcoming inn keepers. We experienced seaside hugging hills, ridges draped with medieval-aged towns and the summit of Monte della Stella at 1,125 meters. Every day, we knew that On Foot Holidays, our tour operator, had personally vetted excellent hosts, trails, and restaurants. At every junction, we knew that we were safe, and our task was to enjoy our holiday.

Our 6 day walk in the beautiful Dordogne was like walking in a dream. Fairytale castles and bucolic villages abounded, strung together by wildflower lined paths in dappled shade. We spent 8 days walking in northern Portugal, most of which was in the Peneda-Geres national park, staying in B&B's, charming guest houses, small hotels, and the elegant Pousada Santa Maria do Bouro. We enjoyed walking on mountain paths, Roman roads, and rural tracks through small villages, farms, and vineyards. We had many opportunities to meet with local residents, and were always made to feel welcome. Great food and local wines, too. Our first time in Portugal and a terrific experience!

My parents and I had a fantastic trip walking the Welsh Borderlands. We got lucky with amazing sunny weather. Traversing the rolling green hills, having delicious beer at the inns we stayed in, and hopping the never ending quirky stiles were absolute highlights of the trip. The innkeepers and staff at Bishop's Castle, Clun, Knighton, Kington, and Hay-on-Wye were kind, thoughtful, and generous. The app through on foot was unbelievably helpful as were the maps and detailed walking instructions. We are certainly planning to do another on foot holidays trip in the future.

Walking in northern Portugal is a treat not to pass up. Unique villages, gorgeous landscapes/vistas and people who are always welcoming. Interesting architecture amid spring flowers and always flowering orange and lemon trees. This just might be paradise.

Stunning! varied rocky landscape, remarkable geological formations, beautiful vistas, passes and mountain ranges. A challenging, engaging and culturally fascinating 7 days of hiking. Each small village where we spent the night had a unique character and great accommodation. This was an incredible experience, though not for the faint of heart, lots of not-so-easy rocky ascents!

We booked our La Gomera walking holiday with On Foot because we had seen that they had won a sustainable travel award. Their web site looked good and they had a UK address. We thought that might help with communications. We have lots of experience in mountain areas and wanted to do a self guided walk, not as part of a group. On foot provided excellent support, their response to our questions before the holiday were very quick, clear and helpful. During the holiday we got excellent support in adapting the walk route and the amount we walked and the amount we used the luggage bus and local buses to suit our fitness and health at the time. The hotels were very good, in some locations there is not much choice! the maps and the GPS app were bothe excellent and helped us to stay on route.

Dinner, B&B accommodation pre-booked in small guest houses; heavy luggage taken from and to each venue via taxi. Final Night in Ronda and then bus back to Malaga. The scenery, hospitality and accommodation were all amazing!

Wearing many layers in foggy cloud forest down to arid desert garden areas...and back up again! Very diverse and fascinating walk in a lovely, uncrowded and magical island. Finished with a stay in the historical and elegant Parador hotel in San Sebastian. Every detail was meticulously covered by On Foot Holidays -- from walking route notes to inns to meals and transport. A very enjoyable and wonderful getaway!
