My wife and I made a 6-day walking tour of the Dordogne region of France. Our tour operator was "On Foot Holidays" which we used for a previous self-directed walking tour of the Dorset region of England. The walks were bucolic, well-marked, and beautiful. Varied scenery was the norm, ranging from pastoral vistas to moderate climbs, cascading waterfalls, and quaint villages. Accommodations at the end of the day provided a warm welcome for us as well as a delicious dinner and a warm and comfortable bed. The next morning we had breakfast and most of the hotels provided a packed lunch too! Despite not being French-speakers, we had virtually no problems with communication. We simply loved our time in "the Dordogne" and look forward to our next adventure with "On Foot Holidays".
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We discovered "On Foot Holidays" on an Internet search looking for self-directed walking holidays. The web site was the most organized and helpful of all the companies we reviewed. Communication with OFH was easy and always helpful. Further, there was a sense of true caring and wanting to do the very best for us. Responses were always personal. It felt as if we were part of a "family". All aspects of the trip were exceedingly well-organized ranging from the accommodations to the taxi service for transporting our luggage as well at times ourselves. There was voluminous background information provided about what we might see along the way as well as historical information that provided a real context for what we were seeing. OFH also provided information as to how we were to get from the airport to our initial destination as well as information on getting from our last destination to the airport. OFH provided an App that all pertinent information was available with the click of our iPhone, and it also had details about our daily walks and a GPS function that ensured that we never were at risk of getting lost. I have nothing but the highest praise for the organization and people that power this tour operator. It is of the highest caliber.

We started in Zahara and finished in Ronda. We found the walks suitable for our fitness level and the good weather helped to make it a success. The App which we used to guide our walks was very clear and comprehensive. The hotels (apart from one, and On Foot were very responsive in relation to this), were perfect for us. It was nice to be able to stay in some of the hotels for two nights. The scenery was spectacular; as it was May, the colors of the countryside were amazing. We will definitely book with On Foot again.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
On Foot were great communicators and very well organised. When we had a problem their response was positive and appropriate.

We love traveling to “untouristy” destinations and this certainly fit the bill. The rural areas we traveled through were quiet, peaceful, and had beautiful scenery. The two coastal towns we stayed in were also lovely and offered a nice balance of cafes, restaurants, etc set against the backdrop of the sea. We traveled in the spring so there was an abundance of spring wildflowers on our walks. Several times we would encounter old, abandoned stone houses in the countryside surrounded by a field of flowers. Often, we would walk along fields that included olive trees, lemon trees, and grape vines. Interspersed were quaint, unspoiled hillside villages. The accommodations were wonderful. Our hosts were warm and friendly. The food was great and the places we stayed were very comfortable. We had such a good time that we are already looking at options for our next hike with On Foot Holidays.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
I cannot say enough about how great On Foot Holidays is. If we had a question, someone would usually get back to us within their workday. The only time the response was next day was due to the time difference between the UK and the US. And, shout out to Fiona who spent about 45 minutes on the phone with us once to describe a specific route we were considering! How often does that happen? Everyone we communicated with were friendly and extremely professional.

A magnificent 7 days of walking through the beautiful rolling hillsides, farmlands, forests , and medieval villages, all interspersed with amazing views along the way. There were also side ventures from visiting a Medieval Castle to exploring massive underground caves. All of the logistics were impeccably organized. The hotels and inns we stayed at made us feel welcome and we met some bright souls along the way. The food we ate was also fabulous as it included some Michelin restaurants. The weather was very good with only one day of rain, and the rest generally sunny and warm.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
OnFoot was super friendly, organized and helpful before during and after our trip. Everything went according to plan. The walking instructions were clear and the app they provided was helpful and kept us on track. The accomodations were varied but all enjoyable in their own way. The local contact was always available to help during our travel and we took advantage of this a couple of times to help arrange short cuts and trips to visit some sights.

A marvelous walking holiday mostly along the Cornwall coastal path. Inspired to visit Cornwall by the television show 'Doc Martin'. Walking the coastal path is magnificent: historic small towns, beautiful scenery, history, etc. The path is well marked, maintained, signed and spotlessly clean. People of Cornwall were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Very nice accommodation provided along the route.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
This was our third walking holiday with On Foot. We have found them consistently reliable, helpful, cooperative and providing good value for money. We know that when we book with On Foot that our walking holiday will be interesting, scenic, well planned and low stress. With On Foot, everything just works as it is supposed to.

My third holiday with On Foot and as with the others, it is meticulously prepared. The range of accommodation is always welcome and interesting, the hosts provide excellent customer service as does the local contact. The views, the quiet, the spring flowers and bird song remain long after returning. Thank you for these memories.

We completed the 6 night Basque Pyrenees to San Sebastian hike and loved every minute. There was enough challenge in the hill climbs to get the blood pumping and the legs working, and enough drama in the via ferrata section to get a buzz, without real fear of of slipping (much easier to say no it is done!). We went in late May and the weather was perfect. I am not sure if this is normal for for that time of the year but the sun shone us and the breeze came in when we needed it. The accommodation each night was of a high standard, with most being places we would definitely chose to stay in. Last time we used On Foot (Dolomites) we extended our stay by additional nights and if we had the time for this trip we really would have loved to have stayed in some of the same accommodations in the villages/towns for an additional night - just to make the most of them! We used the map app and walking notes - this took all the stress out of having to map read and we were able to take it all in and enjoy what was going on around us. Forest and farmlands, ridge walks, Pyrenees ponies, and every corner turned opening up to another spectacular view. Aznar, our local contact, was there if we needed him and the recommendations made for where to eat when dinner was not included were spot on. We were absolutely confident that if anything happened or support was required, Aznar would have been able to sort it out. San Sebastian is the perfect reward at the end of the hike! We had an extra night there at the end, and could have easily had another. A gorgeous place to explore, and eat/drink your way around. Finally, the other two groups doing the hike at the same time as us were brilliant. Great to be able to catch up with others at the end of the day, but still feel like the mountains all to ourselves.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
As mentioned we have used On Foot before and are making plans to book again. We feel confident in booking with them knowing that everything will be taken care of and all we need to do is make sure we are hike ready. Any questions are answered quickly and all efforts are made to ensure there is nothing to worry about in the lead up to the trip, and during it. Love the range of options on offer and how easy it is to add nights. On Foot also make sure there are options to shorten distances or skip trickier bits. We haven't had to use these options - yet - but appreciate that they are there!

A group of 10 took the 4-day walking trip in Provence. It was a truly amazing experience. On Foot Holidays was attentive to every detail and a breeze to work with. The accommodations and meals were terrific and the proprietors at the inns were such delightful people. The On Foot Holidays app made navigating the route easy and the details about sites along the way were fantastic.

We set out for our starting point in Arizkun, with some trepidation, as the weather forecast, for the next five days, was very overcast and wet. However, we had mostly glorious sunshine and no rain at all for the four days of walking. We explored very interesting landscapes, architecture and culture and we thoroughly enjoyed this On Foot Holiday. Would strongly recommend, but a good level of fitness is needed.

Five days of walking through beautiful rolling countryside, through quiet patches of forest and woods, up and over hills with magnificent views, and down into old and well-preserved English villages. The pubs and hotels we stayed in were all of the highest standard, warm and welcoming, providing great meals and pleasant surroundings to relax and recover. The full Dorset experience!
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
A lot of thought has gone into designing and planning this walk. Some days the walking is challenging in terms of distance and hills to be crested, but the rewards are there in terms of varied and at times breathtaking scenery. And there were always suggestions on offer to shorten and moderate the challenge. The track notes and the On Foot gps app are excellent and make for easy navigation. The accommodation is also varied and without exception of the highest standard. On the few occasions we had some logistics to deal with, the local contact was immediately responsive and resolved things for us.

On Foot Holidays provided us with a lovely walking journey through varied and gorgeous scenery in North Devon, UK. Their personalized service and attention to detail was outstanding. The information they provided gave us everything we could need for a successful trip. Even our weather was perfect, although I can't give On Foot credit for that. Their App alerted us when we strayed from the route, which was amazing. I felt so well cared for. The accommodations were all outstanding offering comfy beds and delicious breakfasts. I will suggest them to anyone looking for a walking holiday.

We really enjoyed seeing the Rhine area from high above in addition to seeing it from the river level. Staying in multiple castles and seeing other castles was a real treat. Seeing the high areas where there were wonderful meadows and glorious woods in addition to beautiful fields of grains waving in the breeze-all above the Rhine River was such a visual spectacle. We also met great people along the way. We loved it and it certainly exceeded our expectations.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
This was our 6th walk with On Foot Holidays and they are like family to us. The company provides so much more than the other four walking companies we have dealt with. The ferry and train schedules were often used. The shortening options were a great touch. The background and historical information gave insight into the many sights we saw. The restaurant suggestions were appreciated but we also liked the details regarding the trails themselves and what pleasantries or obstacles might be experienced. On Foot makes for a perfect experience in our minds. We continue to recommend On Foot to others.

The Bohemian Paradise walk was exceptional in both cultural exposure in the quaint Czech towns and the many Czech travelers and also the scenic beauty with hundreds of tall sandstone monolith formations, ancient castles, many wooded areas with evergreen trees and beautiful flower filled meadows. It was a fairytale come true and we loved it all. The Bohemian Paradise museum gave us insight into why the area has been historically important with the many gemstones found there.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
Questions from the tour operator were answered immediately and thoroughly. Luggage was transferred smoothly. Background information provided historical context and provided insight into the sights seen. The App worked well but we also appreciated the many hardcopy maps provided. Information on Prague and a map of Prague were given even though it wasn't part of the walk. Many of us also took the city in. The places we stayed were excellent and included staying in a castle. Everything was personalized to and for us which was both useful and appreciated. The attention that On Foot paid to clients has been impressive.

A great six day walk across the Apennines from the Po valley to the Ligurian Riviera. Notable for the high, historic paths; the quality of the stopovers - welcome, accommodation, wonderful local food and wine; the wildlife, and the peacefulness. And after several long days on the trot, the luxuries of Camogli, a lovely Riviera town.

This was our second holiday with On Foot Holidays, and once again, their local knowledge ensured that we had a perfect experience of a beautiful and unspoiled region of Italy. Four of us spent six days walking along the coast and in the woodlands and hills of the Cilento National Park. The routes were sufficiently challenging and without exception, quite beautiful. In May, the wild flowers are at their best and we were accompanied by birds, butterflies and so many little green lizards we lost count. We have walked a few times in Italy but this was by far the most unspoilt. We passed through some enchanting villages but apart from at our accommodation, we met hardly anyone. We stayed in a great variety of accommodation from an old convent in the hills to a couple of quite amazing hotels by the sea.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We have now used On Foot several times to organise our walking holidays around Europe. Every time they prove to be efficient and helpful when sorting out our needs. However, the best thing about working with them is that every member of the team is so friendly and genuinely cares that we have the most enjoyable holiday possible. The routes they offer have been walked by members of the team so they can give first hand information and advice. We are already discussing our trip for 2026!
