Walking holidays in Portugal
Portugal is the most westerly country in Europe, with a long Atlantic coast that leavens its southerly latitude with sea breezes and a little more rain than Spain. It has a noble sea-faring history too, and a strongly defined culture, facing away from Europe towards the rest of the world, to which the great ports of Lisbon and Porto bear witness.
Our route in Portugal shows a very different face to the better known tourist-focused Algarve. In the far north, close to the Spanish province of Galicia, is a land of lush green hills, little villages and horned cattle. Peneda-Gerês, as it is known, will delight the seasoned walker looking for solitude and an authentic culture. And maybe a little Vinho Verde…
