One particular description springs to mind after seven nights spent walking in the Ligurian Hills - an immersive experience! This was due to a combination of factors: First, the walking was remote (yet accessible from Milan) - we hardly came across any other walkers - definitely far from the madding crowd. Second, the landscape was varied and changed gradually over the week, from vineyards and rolling hills to steeper climbs (an elevation gain of 1500m on one day in particular) and ridge top walking above the heavily wooded hills with far reaching views, finally descending to the glittering Med at the end - the August heat added an extra layer of challenge to the hill climbing, but luckily wooded pathways were much in evidence. Third, just as varied was the accommodation - each Locanda/small hotel had a distinct character of its own but with a common theme of warm hospitality and fantastic local home cooking, even homemade wine at one remote B&B. The authenticity of the cooking was as much a feature of this holiday as the walking itself! On Foot Holidays like to give their walkers a sense of completing a journey: This was very much in evidence on this holiday.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
Excellent service and back-up as always. On Foot Holidays' ethos of great walking and equally great accommodation is a winning combination for me.

We spent 5 days hiking in the Alpes Maritimes. Everything was booked for us by On Foot: the hotels and bed and breakfasts that we stayed at (mostly half board, with packed lunches provided); the transportation of our luggage between hotels so that we only had to carry a day bag on our hikes; the routes planned in meticulous detail and a delivered via a GPS enabled app which was very easy to follow. The organisation was excellent, as was the choice of hotels and hosts at each stop. And we loved that as well as keeping us on our routes (the app beeped at us if we started to stray from the path!) we were given loads of interesting information as we went on - the history of the area, the flora and fauna, geology etc. Hotels chosen were modest but clean, welcoming and generally with excellent food.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
On Foot planned the holiday really well, with lots of contact beforehand, but a very light touch when we were actually on the holiday so that we were able to enjoy ourselves without feeling part of a tour. They also responded well to the odd problem that occurred, both with the local contact and the office staff back home.

We did the 6 night Dolomites hike first week of July 2025, with one night staying in a Refuge. The weather was amazing, a little rain on day one about 3km from finish but otherwise amazing. The hikes accommodation was nothing short of wonderful and the hike was out of this world especially day climbing to the Tre Cime. Wonderful memories and highly recommended.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We have used On Foot Holidays once before and so impressed with the hike and their attention to detail that we were only going to use them when we wanted to do the Dolomites. They are so organised, helpful and easy to use that we have had no issues for either hike and have recommended them to others who are now using them. Amazing job On Foot Holidays- keep up the great work. Thanks so much you made this part of the holiday easy.

Four of us in our 70's (all experienced hikers in reasonably good shape) did the 7 night/6 day Dordogne trip. We did it early May 2025 and the flowers everywhere are a bonus hiking at that time. The route was so lovely, the towns so charming, the food everywhere was very good. Not a touristy part of the Dordogne except Rocamadour and the Gauffre de Padirac, both of which are worth it anyways. The hikes were varied and hard enough but not crazy hard. We liked the option, on a couple of the long hikes, to hire the bags driver to take us partway. The first couple of hotels were more modest but clean and in great locations and friendly hosts. The last 4 hotels were very nice, elegant but not fussy. Belcastel was a special treat. We wished we had booked an extra night there to spend a little more time enjoying it and relaxing before moving on. Highly recommend!
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
This was my 6th European self-guided hiking trip and the 4th tour operator. OnFoot was the best of all I have experienced. Their response time, helpfulness, great route and lodging, willingness to meet some special requests, were outstanding. Their app is very user-friendly but also detailed and comprehensive. I loved that meals were included many nights - one less thing to worry about after a day of hiking.

This north west corner of Greece, bordering with Albania, is home to some truly dramatic scenery with the majestic Vikos Gorge at it's centre. Some of the hiking is rugged and elemental with sections of scrambling and scrabbling and then some is along gentle wooded paths into small villages where you are greeted with warmth by locals. It still felt undiscovered and the journey to get there is part of the experience. We did all the hiking options, no short cuts or days off - wouldnt have wanted to have missed any of it!
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We were are group of 6 and it is the 3rd time we have travelled with On Foot. They arranged bespoke travel for us to and from Igounitsa and made recommendations for hotels for onward travel. The hiking instructions, maps and app, were all excellent and easy to use. Everyone you speak to in the office always seems to be up to date with your particular trip with first hand experience of individual locations.

We’ve just returned from the Lighthouse Way in Galicia – our second trip with On Foot Holidays – and once again, it was simply outstanding. What impressed us most is how carefully and thoughtfully the walk is put together. From the route itself to the selection of places to stay, everything is curated with a quiet intelligence. There’s this "invisible guiding hand" that accompanies you all the way – through the app, the printed materials, and the local host, who adds depth and local context in just the right moments. It never feels over-managed, but you always feel looked after. We especially appreciated the flow of the days: the balance between effort and reward, the rhythm of walking and arriving. The accommodation was full of character, the food generous (even for a vegetarian, like Andrea), and the contact with locals felt genuine and unforced. After two On Foot trips, we’ve come to realise: this has become our favourite kind of holiday. Moving through a landscape on foot, at our own pace – but with everything thoughtfully prepared behind the scenes. It’s a rare combination of independence and care. Warm thanks to the On Foot team and to our fantastic local host Aznar, whose quiet presence and support were invaluable.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
With On Foot Holidays, it always feels like you’re in touch with friends – friendly, relaxed, and at the same time highly competent. The communication is personal, clear, and often comes with a good dose of British humour. You can tell they know and love their routes, but there’s no fuss about it – just quiet confidence and a real sense of care. For us, that’s a big part of what makes these holidays so enjoyable.

The Lighthouse Way is a walking holiday in Galicia, north-west Spain, from Laxe to Finisterra -- the 'end of the world'. We were walking in brilliant sunshine over cliffs and beautiful beaches watching a blue sea covered in white breakers. Many ships have foundered on this rocky coast, and we saw many lighthouses erected to help them. Wonderful warm hospitality, fantastic seafood to try each evening.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
On Foot were totally supportive. Their on-the-ground courier, Aznar, was responsive and helpful when issues arose like our flight running late, and when we opted for a taxi when we wanted a shorter day's walking. Their app is totally amazing, making a self-guided walk a doddle.

Fabulous from start to finish (and everything in between)! Supported to put together a great 12 day holiday in Italy by the fantastic team at On Foot holidays. We spent 3 days walking in Cinque Terre (organized separately) before traveling by train to start our walking holiday in Southern Tuscany. We then spent a few days in Siena before returning home. Stunning countryside, great walking (even in the heat wave), lovely accommodation in beautiful hilltop towns. Everything went so smoothly! We loved exploring the hill top towns in the evening after completing our walk and chilling in the local bars and restaurants; ate some great food and everyone was so welcoming. The attention to detail by On Foot holidays and local support provided by our local contact Daniele was outstanding. This was our first ‘walking holiday’; I look forward to planning and booking our next one with On Foot holidays.

We paired two walking holidays--Classic Slovenia and Slovenian Highlands--for an amazing holiday. It didn't hurt that, especially the second week of walking, we had perfect weather: sunshine in brilliant blue skies over snow-capped mountains as we walked through forest and along emerald rivers, waterfalls, and lakes. Our first walk, after a night in Ljubljana, took us from Landol by the Predjama castle as we skirted the Nanos Mountain Ridge walking through the Karst region with its vineyards to Trieste, Italy and the coast. Our second walk, on the other side of Nanos, took us through foothills of the Julian and Karawanken Alps, near Austria, as we walked from Kranjska Gora and Lake Jasna to Mojstrana and the foot of the north face of Triglav returning to Mojstrana along the lovely Bistrica Trail. From Mojstrana we traveled along a vehicle track up to the village of Planina pod Golico. The next day, following a walk uphill through beautiful woods, we arrived at Golica, the highest point of our walk, and its amazing views of Austria and the Julian Alps. Our trip ended in Bled and its serene beauty and a visit to Vintgar Gorge and its powerful waters. Lodging was excellent with especially good breakfasts as well as some splendid evening meals. It's hard to think of anything desirable that this pair of walks lacked. And the weather, including a welcoming rainbow in Kranjska Gora, was stunning.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
These were our fifth and sixth walks with On Foot Holidays. The staff of On Foot is wonderful in every respect. Their planning begins with the route and their local team and continues through the oversight and interaction with their office in Salisbury. They are quick to respond to queries and to assist in plans from travel to lodging to length of stay to advice about what you must not miss. They and their local team (in Slovenia, Miha) are eager to assist and ensure a great trip. Debbie was especially helpful for us. We've recommended On Foot to others and will continue to do so.

We spent 9 full days hiking the Amalfi Coast. What a wonderful way to see an area. Scenic and very beautiful. This was a great way to experience the towns and countryside with and without the crowds. Mostly without while on the trail. Can't say enough about the landscape, food and the views!
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We used On Foot Holidays. They were great to work with! They took care of all of the details of our accommodations and trail routes. Not only did they send us very detailed maps and directions but they also have a great route app that does not require data or a lot of phone battery. We could run it all day. The best helpful feature was if you got more than 50 m off trail it would alert you. Very handy! On Foot was very responsive to our questions and extremely helpful through the whole process from reservations, suggestions, in-country help, transfer of luggage daily, restaurant options and things to do and see. We also followed their suggestions of extra days in Positano, Sant' Agata and a few days in Capri. We were delighted that we did them all. It was really a great adventure. We are looking forward to our next trip with them.

We were on a four day all through the vineyards and hilltop towns in Southern Tuscany. We chose a rather hot time of year to do this but found that most of the hotels we stayed at had good sized outdoor pools. which we ere much appreciated to cool off in. On Foot arranged the hotels and luggage transfers so we didn't have a lot to carry. the scenery was stunning and the hilltop towns fascinating places to explore.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
We found On Foot holidays a number of years ago through an article in the Times, since then we have been on five walking holidays across Europe with them which have all been excellent, They take great care to tailor the holiday to your needs and provide detailed information on the walks, they now have an App which saves on carrying paper and ensures you stay on the walking route as well as being informed on the places you pass through. We look forward to our next walking holiday

This was our first time in Dordogne, and our first experience with OnFoot Holidays. We were very taken by the detailed description of the route, sometimes with tiny details noted ("The track becomes an asphalt lane. It passes a house with an arched porch, and, just as the road turns to the left at a 6t sign, find a waymarked grassy track off to the R (300m)." The carefully-chosen route allowed us to spend very little time on roads, and we had excellent trails and sometimes spectacular views. Accommodations were fine, even great at times.
Rating for On Foot Holidays:
OnFoot Holidays was impeccably responsive to the few questions we had (For example, we once wanted to arrange an early pick-up to miss some of the day's heat,), and our baggage was transported efficiently and promptly. What more could one want?
